Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to our visiting Argentinian students. Bienvenidos Colegio Monserrat!
We have the pleasure of hosting 15 Students from Monserrat College in Córdoba, Argentina at Paraparaumu College until 19th March. These same students hosted us in September 2017 when 9 students from PC spent time at their school, going to classes and living with Argentinian host families. Now, the Argentinian students are here with us, and are fully engaging with the New Zealand way of life.
During their time here they have already participated in inter-house athletics, and been to Wellington to explore Te Papa. They will also be learning about native wildlife on Kāpiti Island, hiking up Hemi Mātenga, learning about biology at the Rocky Shore, visiting Whakarongotai Marae and connecting with our Tu Kaha Māori student leaders where they will learn the school haka and do some weaving. They will also spend a day in Wellington exploring the harbour on Kayaks, and rock climbing at Fergs. Their host families also have an incredible range of activities lined up for the students, including attending a Hurricanes match, trips to Napier and Tauranga, snorkeling adventures, as well as a personalised flight over Kāpiti Island! These students will have a full and exciting 3 weeks of learning and making life long memories.
The real benefit of this exchange programme, is the connections the students make with their host siblings. The experience of culture and language in a real context makes for rich learning and deep levels of appreciation. Argentina student Ezequiel Milone says “getting to know another culture other than ours, other ways of thinking and living; and sharing our own traditions and lifestyle; apart from making new friendships are some of the main purposes of this trip”.
We know that this will be a life changing event for all students involved, and we are excited to continue this relationship with Colegio Monserrat in the future.
