2023 Zone Information

Consequent upon the passing of the Education Amendment Act 2000, the following matters are
drawn to the attention of the parents of prospective students at Paraparaumu College.

ENROLMENT SCHEME
In order to avoid overcrowding, the Board has adopted an enrolment scheme which have been approved by the Ministry of Education.  The Board now invites applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at any of
the above schools for next year. Applications are governed by our enrolment scheme, details of which are available in our prospectus or from the the College Office.

Applications are to be made on the official enrolment forms, and according to the manner prescribed in the prospectus of our school.  Application forms and the prospectus will be available soon.

HOME ZONE
Paraparaumu College has a home zone specified in their enrolment scheme. The following is a description of the home zones:

In the south the scheme runs along the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road, along
Toru Road to the airport and following the airport boundary north along Dakota Rd –
Magrath Ave to Kāpiti Road, then along both sides of Kāpiti Road to old State Highway, up
the old State Highway to the intersection of Ruahine Street (including Nikau Valley).

The scheme runs east until the top of the Akatarawa summit. The scheme runs along until it
meets Hadfield Road.

The scheme then runs north up State Highway One to Te Kowhai Road and Gary Road. The
scheme then runs back along the coast to the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road.

All residential addresses on included sides of boundary roads and all no exit roads off
included sides of boundary roads are included in the scheme unless otherwise stated.

NUMBERS OF PLACES AVAILABLE
Each of the Boards of the schools has determined the optimum number of places likely to be available for students entering Year 9 in 2023. Also indicated are the likely number of places available to students from outside the home zone.

The out of zone numbers are an estimate only and the actual number of places available will not be known until the pre-enrolment of all in zone students has been completed.

Estimated Year 9, 2023 is 290 to 300

Estimated out of zone places Year 9, 2023 is 35

Students who live within the home zone of any school have the right to be enrolled at that school. The likely number of places available for Year 9 students who live outside the home zone will depend upon the number of applications received by the parents of students who live within the school’s home zone.

BALLOTS FOR PLACES FOR OUT OF ZONE STUDENTS
The order of priority in which applicants who live outside a school’s home zone are to be offered places at the school is as follows:

(a) first priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school (Paraparaumu College has no such programme);

(b) second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school;

(c) third priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a former student of the school;

(d) fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school;

(e) fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of an employee of the Board of the school;

(f) sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.

If the number of out of zone applicants for our school exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot (except in the case of special programmes, where the criteria in the enrolment scheme apply).

If a ballot is required for Year 9 students at our school, that ballot will be held on Monday 1 August 2022. Parents will be informed of the outcome of that ballot within three school days of the ballot being held. Parents will have 14 days to respond to any offer of a place.

If a ballot is required for Years 10 to 13 students at our school, that ballot will be held on Friday 21 October 2022 and parents will be informed of the outcome within three school days of the ballot being held.
