14 April 2025

Kia ora koutou

We’ve made it to the end of a very long term one!  After 11 weeks, the longest term of the 2025 school year is at an end and, once again, it has been full of incredible achievements both in the classroom, in the sporting arena and through arts and cultural activities. Congratulations to all our fabulous students, along with parents and caregivers, for all that you do for Paraparaumu College. It does not go unnoticed and I now wish you all a very restful and safe holiday break with your whānau and loved ones.

Relay for Life

Our Relay for Life Team of around 90 students took part in the Wellington event last Saturday. The team worked together to carry a baton between 3pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday. The preparation for this event took weeks with students individually fundraising as well as a collective car wash and bake sale/BBQ. The team has raised an impressive amount of over $16,500!  Our top fundraisers for the event were Sophie Noyce, Pippa Beissel, Ariana Savage and AnAn Yu.

A huge thank-you to all the staff and parents who provided supervision for the students to attend this inspiring event.

Junior and Senior Reports

Junior (Year 9 and 10) Interim reports were sent to parents/caregivers on Friday. Seniors students will have had a feed forward comment for each subject published to the parent portal.

ANZAC Day

I am looking forward to my first ANZAC Day commemorations as Principal, and I will be honoured to represent the college alongside our student leadership team at several local ANZAC services on Friday 25th April. This is a day where we collectively reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served and lost their lives in conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world. It’s a time to honour the past, appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today and pass on the values of courage, mateship and sacrifice to the next generation. Lest we forget.

Senior Ball - Last chance to purchase ball tickets

The Senior Ball is coming up quickly and so is the deadline for purchasing tickets (Wednesday 30th April). If your child hasn't got their ticket yet, they can be purchased through https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/344467

This is the same process whether you are paying on account or credit card.

You can also pay at the office, but you must complete the form above first.

It would be great if this could be done during the holidays to help the committee with budgeting and planning on their return next term.

Term two, week four - learning from home

In week four of term two, many of our Year 11 - 13 students will be sitting their NCEA corequisite literacy and numeracy assessments. These assessments are an important part of students’ overall NCEA level certificates and they will have been informed if they are required to sit one of these assessments during this week.

In order for us to create the space for our students to sit these assessments, as well as to free up the necessary staff to facilitate them, we are going to roster two year groups to learn from home.

Tuesday 20th May - Year 13 students learning from home

Wednesday 21st May - Year 11 students learning from home

If Year 11 or 13 students have their corequisite assessments to sit on those days that they are rostered home, they need to attend their corequisite from 11:05am - 1:35pm. Rooms for assessments will be confirmed in early term two.

Classroom teachers will make sure that all students have classwork shared with them on their Google Classroom that they can complete while learning from home.

Keeping our expectations high

We will be holding some year level assemblies at the start of Term 2 to remind students of our expectations around some basics such as uniform, not leaving classes, attendance etc. We always value your support at home in ensuring your child is wearing the correct uniform and arrives at school on time. A reminder that plain black jackets are okay once the weather starts to get cooler, but hoodies in any colour are not a part of school uniform.

We use our School App and Facebook page for any urgent messages and to highlight student success and we would love you to follow us.  You can find the links at the bottom of this newsletter along with a link to our Instagram page and Youtube.

Every best wish to you all for the Easter break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school, refreshed and ready to go, on Monday 28th April.
