Click here for instructions on how to access the Parental Portal to view Live Reports.
At Paraparaumu College we use ‘live reporting’ as our primary means of reporting on student progress. We made this change at the start of 2015 in response to feedback from parents that some of the subject report comments they were receiving were too general, or that the information was provided too late for a student to make changes for the assessment that they were working on.
We believe that the live reporting approach provides more immediate feedback on student achievement. It also allows teachers to report more specifically on different areas of the curriculum, as well as more clearly on progress towards certain assessments.
In 2016, all teachers will be providing a new comment for each student at least four times during the year. They will comment on what a student is currently working towards and what they need to do next. Comments will be brief and provide specific feedback linked to either Achievement Standards (in the senior school) or curriculum objectives and/or learning for the term (in the junior school). The comments might be more informal than traditional reports.
There will be no set time that these reports will be ‘issued’. The nature of this type of reporting means that each department decides when it is most timely to update parents on progress. Comments will be dated so you will be able to see when a teacher has commented on an area of the curriculum. We will still be providing the Attitudes and Behaviour Interim reports in terms 1 & 2 for senior students and in terms 1, 2 and 3 for junior students.
The College will send out reminders each term about the reports and there will be reminders on the college website. Parents without internet access at home can use the iPad set up in the Administration Block foyer which has access to the Parent Portal anytime they are visiting the College. You are also welcome to request printouts from us should you need them.
What this means for you:
- All reports will be accessed through the parent portal – families were sent a personalised email detailing your log-on details and password in February. Please contact the college office if you need this information or are having trouble accessing the parent portal.
- You will need to check the Parent Portal every 2-3 weeks for new comments.
- It would also be a good time to check we have your current email address as email is now our primary means of corresponding with parents.
- We would welcome your feedback throughout the year as we continue to develop our processes for this initiative.
You can of course contact us at any time during the year to discuss any matters relating to your child’s progress at school.
