The Whānau Group would like to invite your whānau/family to join our group by contacting the College. We meet throughout the year to plan or discuss our support towards various college events and initiatives. Our community is also a platform for parents to discuss a range of matters that affect our tamariki in their learning.
What is a “Whānau Group”?
As well as descent-based whānau, there are whānau who come together for a common purpose. This is sometimes described as kaupapa-based whānau.
Many schools establish a kaupapa-based whānau to help them meet the Ministry of Education’s requirement that all Boards shall, “in consultation with its Māori community, develop and make known to the school’s community policies, plans and targets for improving the achievement of Māori students”.
What do we do
The College Whānau Group works collaboratively with the school on a number of kaupapa Māori intended to foster student achievement and to improve the learning experience of all students. The roopu (group) supports the Board’s strategic priority to raise Māori student achievement and contributes to the realisation of Te Ako Patuia – The Good Learner Partnership Plan. Some of our members like to help the school in activities such as kapa haka, powhiri, hangi and marae visits.

The roopu also facilitates opportunities to receive information / advice relating to:

– NCEA

– Scholarships for tertiary study

– Career pathways

– Leadership opportunities

If you would like to know more about these opportunities or have any questions, please email office@pcol.school.nz

All parents, students, grandparents and other extended family are invited to our meetings. Members of staff, Board of Trustee members and other members of our school community are also welcome.

Mā te runga rawa tātou e manaaki, e tiaki i ngā wā katoa.
