Meet the Teacher – Claire Neil

ClaireThis term we will be profiling the new members of the teaching staff who have joined us in 2016.  This week, we are featuring Claire Neil, who teaches Spanish.  Spanish has quickly established itself as our most popular international language, with more than 100 Year 9 students opting to study it in 2016.  Last year, Claire was studying towards her Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching at Victoria University in Wellington and we were so impressed with her when she completed her placement at Paraparaumu College that we offered her a job!  Claire has strong connections with Spanish speaking countries and is a key person in organising our 2017 Spanish Language trip to Argentina.  Prior to training to be a teacher, Claire worked in retail, managing different branches of The Body Shop in Wellington.  We asked Claire about her first term at Paraparaumu College.  She told us that she is “so happy to be at such a positive and proactive school” and commented that she was really enjoying “connecting with students and sharing her love of languages with them.”  She also identified the positive atmosphere among the staff as a highlight of her first term.  Welcome to Paraparaumu College, Claire.  It’s great to have you with us.  We are really enjoying working with you.
